Hundreds Attend Nurse Training Information Evenings in the South East.

Hundreds attended the recent series of Information Meetings to promote nurse training in the South East.

This year, a series of seven career and nursing evenings were organised around the South East region. This was a collaborative approach between the South Eastern Health Board and Waterford Institute of Technology.

The evenings were a mixture of information sessions with nurse tutors and student nurses from both general and psychiatric backgrounds and Questions & Answers Sessions with the audience. There were opportunities for informal questions at the end of each evening.

This coming 2002/2003 college year sees the introduction of a Mental Handicap Nursing Programme at WIT.

Feedback from the information evenings was excellent. Those attending the evenings ranged from school leavers to mature students and parents.

Mark White, Project Officer with the Nursing & Midwifery Planning & Development Unit in the South Eastern Health Board said this year’s marketing campaign was very successful: “The attendances for the seven evenings represented an increase of over 50% from last year. The success of the information evening lies primarily with the student nurses who participated.  They give a real life flavour to the information evenings and those thinking of a career in nursing.”

The promotional evenings were advertised in local newspapers and on local radio stations and led up to the final closing date for CAO applications
