New Ultrasound Machines Unveiled
at Wexford General Hospital
The
Chairman of the South Eastern Health Board, Dr. Jack Gallagher, officially
unveiled two new ultrasound machines recently at Wexford General Hospital.
The
two machines one general ultrasound machine and one Obstetric machine
cost almost 400,000. They were jointly funded by the South Eastern
Health Board and the Wexford CAT Scan Committee. The CAT Scan Committee
has already contributed significantly to the CAT Scanner at the hospital,
which has been up and running since last year.
The
Committee has raised an enormous amount of money for developments at the
hospital. Fundraising events included golf classics, flag days, cake sales
and the very successful St. Patricks Night Ball.
Speaking
at the official unveiling at Wexford General Hospital on Monday, the
Chairman of the South Eastern Health Board, Dr. Jack Gallagher, said that
the fact that this was a jointly funded project, between Wexford General
Hospital and the Wexford CAT Scan committee was illustrative of the
partnership that exists between the hospital and the community: I
cannot praise the CAT Scan Committee enough, he said. They have done
absolutely tremendous work in fundraising for the hospital.
Dr.
Gallagher also paid tribute to management and staff at Wexford General
Hospital: It is wonderful to see the progression in the hospital and I
know that you have worked hard to achieve the facilities that are in the
hospital today, he added
In
addition to the new ultrasound machines, a number of new projects are also
well underway for the hospital this year. The new 10-bed Medical
Assessment Unit is currently being built. The Geriatric Day Hospital will
be in operation by the end of the year. And an additional 19 medical beds
will also be commissioned this year. These beds will have an impact on the
day-to-day running of the hospital, particularly in terms of helping to
alleviate overcrowding in the hospital.
