Appoints New Consultant for Waterford Regional Hospital. The
South Eastern Health Board has appointed a new Consultant General Surgeon
with a special interest in Vascular Surgery for Waterford Regional
Hospital. Mr.
K. Simon Cross, MD., MMed.Sci., FRCSI (Gen.), FRCS (Ed.), took up his
position in Waterford in October. Mr.
Cross graduated from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in 1981. Having
completed an internship in the Meath Hospital and a year as Anatomy
Demonstrator at TCD, he joined the Western Region Pre-Fellowship Training
Scheme in Surgery and worked in Mayo General Hospital, Merlin Park
Regional Hospital and Galway University Hospital. Having
obtained his Fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Ireland and
Edinburgh he became an International Research Fellow at the
Atherosclerosis Research Laboratory at Duke University, North Carolina.
Having completed the Guys Hospital Middle Grade Rotation, Mr. Cross
returned to Ireland and completed his training on the National Scheme for
Higher Surgical Training in Ireland. In
1995 he was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer and Consultant Vascular
Surgeon to Aberdeen University and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Mr. Cross has
particular interests in Endovascular Surgery, mesenteric ischaemia
vascular biology, the management of trauma
and clinical audit. In
his spare time, Mr. Cross enjoys playing golf and driving his 30 year old
MG. Regional Manager with the South Eastern Health Board, Peter Finnegan, said the Board was delighted to welcome Mr. Cross to Waterford Regional Hospital. We are thrilled to have someone as knowledgeable and experienced as Mr. Cross working with us. I wish him all the best in his new appointment, he said.
