SEHB Hosts First Annual Cardiovascular Scientific Conference

The first Annual Scientific Cardiovascular Conference was hosted by the South Eastern Health Board at the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny, on the 14th and 15th May 2002.

The focus of the conference was an evaluation of the implementation of the Cardiovascular Strategy in the South Eastern Health Board to date and was organised by Mairéad Gleeson Project Manager Cardiovascular Strategy, on behalf of Dr. Orlaith O’Reilly Director of Public Health.

The conference coincided with a visit by the Department of Health and Children to the South Eastern Health Board.

Each acute hospital had a visit by a delegation from the Department on the morning of the 14th and the conference commenced that afternoon at the Newpark Hotel. The conference was opened by John Magner Acting Chief Executive Officer of the South Eastern Health Board who re-affirmed that the priority of the Board was to further develop the infrastructure necessary to provide safe and comprehensive care within it’s catchment area, in order to reduce mortality and morbidity from Cardiovascular Disease in accordance with recommendations set down in “Building Healthier Hearts”. The afternoon session was chaired by Mr. Peter Finnegan and included presentations on:

  • Implementation of Cardiovascular Strategy in SEHB – Successes & Challenges

  • Heart Protection

  • Unappreciate Frequency of Cardiomyopathy

  • Area Multi-disciplinary Team –Waterford Regional Hospital

  • Area Multi-disciplinary Team – St. Joseph’s Hospital, Clonmel

  • Area Multi-disciplinary Team – St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny

  • Area Multi-disciplinary Team – Wexford General Hospital
