HEALTH PROMOTIONHealth Promotion

Introduction
Health Promotion is the central aspect of the Government's Strategy for the health service, as documented in the 1994 publication, Shaping a healthier future. The strategy advocates the reorientation of the health services towards a health promotion approach based on encouraging individuals to take responsibility for their own health and on providing the environmental support necessary to achieve this. The Health Promotion Centre of the South Eastern Health Board set up in 1987 provides information and advice to the general public on health topics. The emphasis of the centre is on wellness and people are encouraged to take responsibility for their own health. We have a full listing of the Health Promotion Officers for each Health Board and their contact details.
